Drywall FAQ

23 of the most common questions Macon homeowners ask us about drywall installation, repair, pricing, and our process.

How much does drywall installation cost in Macon GA?

Most Macon homeowners pay $1.50–$3.00 per square foot for drywall installation including materials, labor, and a Level 4 finish. A typical bedroom runs $400–$900. A 1,000 sq ft basement finish typically runs $4,500–$9,000.

How much does drywall repair cost?

Most small drywall repairs in Macon fall between $125 and $400. A few nail holes touched up runs $125–$175. A doorknob-sized patch runs $150–$250. A large 2'×2' patch with texture match runs $300–$500. Water-damaged ceilings start around $400 and scale with the affected area.

Do you offer free estimates?

Yes — every estimate is free and we'll come to your home or jobsite anywhere in Bibb, Houston, Monroe, Jones, Baldwin, Peach, Butts, Putnam or Laurens County. Most estimates take 20–30 minutes.

How fast can you respond to a quote request?

We answer most quote requests within 2 hours during business hours (Mon–Fri 7am–6pm). After-hours requests get a response the next business morning.

Are you licensed and insured?

Yes. Macon Drywall Contractors holds a Georgia residential and general contractor's license, carries general liability insurance, and provides workers' compensation coverage for all crew members. Certificates of insurance are available on request.

How long does drywall installation take?

A single bedroom takes 2–4 days from hang to final coat (drying time between mud coats sets the pace). A finished basement runs 1–2 weeks. A whole-home install typically runs 2–4 weeks. We give a precise calendar during the estimate.

Do you pull permits in Bibb County?

Yes — when a permit is required, we handle the application and inspections as part of the project scope. Drywall-only repair work usually doesn't require a permit; major remodels, additions, and basement finishes do.

Can you match my existing wall texture?

Absolutely. We match orange peel, knockdown, skip trowel, smooth Level 5, and even older popcorn and acoustic textures. We'll do a test panel on cardboard so you can approve the match before we touch the wall.

Do you handle water damage drywall repair?

Yes — water damage is one of our most common repair types. We verify the leak source is fixed and the cavity is dry, cut out compromised drywall, replace, prime with stain-blocker, and match the original texture.

Do you remove popcorn ceilings?

Yes. We scrape, skim coat, prime, and refinish popcorn ceilings throughout Macon. For homes built before 1980 we recommend asbestos testing first ($50–$100 per sample). Removal typically runs $1–$2 per square foot.

What's the difference between Level 4 and Level 5 finish?

Level 4 is three coats over seams, two over screws, sanded smooth — the standard residential finish for walls that will get texture and paint. Level 5 adds a full skim coat of mud over the entire surface — required for high-gloss paint or modern smooth walls under raking light.

Do you do commercial drywall in Macon?

Yes — we sub for general contractors on office TIs, retail, medical suites, and restaurants across Macon and Warner Robins. We handle UL-listed fire-rated assemblies, sound-rated demising walls, and impact-resistant board.

What areas do you serve?

Macon, Warner Robins, Centerville, Kathleen, Perry, Byron, Forsyth, Jackson, Gray, Eatonton, Milledgeville, Dublin, and the surrounding Middle Georgia communities. No travel fee within ~50 miles of our Macon shop.

Do you offer financing?

We accept all major credit cards. For larger projects we can discuss progress-payment schedules so you're paying as work is completed, not all upfront.

Will you clean up after the job?

Yes. Cleanup is included in every quote. Floors are covered with rosin paper or plastic during the work, drywall scraps and dust are vacuumed and hauled away, and we leave your home cleaner than how we found it.

How thick should my drywall be?

1/2" standard drywall is used on most interior walls. 5/8" Type X fire-rated board is required by Georgia code on garage walls adjoining living space and is preferred on ceilings to reduce sag. Moisture-resistant 'green board' or cement backer is used in bathrooms and wet areas.

Can drywall be installed over plaster?

Sometimes — we can install 3/8" drywall directly over solid, attached plaster as long as the wall is plumb and the door/window trim can accommodate the added thickness. It's usually cheaper and cleaner than full plaster demo.

Do you work weekends?

Standard hours are Monday–Friday 7am–6pm. Saturday work is available by appointment for time-sensitive projects (water damage, real estate deadlines, commercial schedules).

Do you guarantee your work?

Yes. Every installation comes with our 15-year workmanship warranty in writing. If a seam cracks, a screw pops, or a repair shows through paint within that period because of our workmanship, we come back and fix it at no charge.

How do I prepare for the drywall crew?

Move any furniture away from the work area, remove pictures and wall hangings nearby, and confine pets to another part of the home. We bring our own tools, materials, drop cloths, and dust control — you don't need to provide anything.

Can you finish my basement?

Yes — basement drywall finishing is one of our most common projects across Middle Georgia. We hang and finish walls and ceilings after the framing, electrical, plumbing, and insulation are complete. Most basements take 7–14 days.

Do you do soundproofing?

Yes — we install QuietRock, resilient channels, sound-isolation clips, and Green Glue damped assemblies for home theaters, music rooms, and shared walls in duplexes or in-law suites.

What payment methods do you accept?

Cash, check, all major credit cards, and ACH transfer. A 25% deposit reserves your start date on jobs over $2,000; balance is due at completion.
